"As a baseball player, I was 5'6" 140 pounds and a Yankee fan. My idols were Mickey Mantle and of course Phil Rizzuto. Heart and true desire are qualities that can carry a player to places he only dreams of...Cooperstown for one. The passing of Phil Rizzuto leaves a sadness in all of the Yankee family. I enjoyed the words of Michael Kay today on the Yankee broadcast. We are really celebrating a wonderful life and a great human being, who just happened to play a little baseball along the way. Thank you Phil for being a great part of our lives. When you took the field, your heart was 6'4"  8/15/7

  • In 1963, his senior year at Hamilton High School, baseball star Sheldon Andrens was first team All-City, Western League “Player of the Year”, and Hamilton “Athlete of the Year”
  • USC Letter Winner in 65-66-67
  • In 1967, the last of has three years as a USC Trojan, the 5’6” Shelly was named All-Coast centerfielder. 
  • He was drafted out of USC by the Cincinnati Reds in 1967 and played in their minor league system through 1974.  Shelly won Silver Gloves in 1968 and 1969 (just one error in 530 chances in centerfield).
