Background: Early signed with the University of Oregon for 2010...broke foot last spring and sat out season...3-1 in '07 with 56 strikeouts in 55 innings with a 2.43 e.r.a...defeated Skagit Valley by going 7-plus innings in the semi-finals ...best outing was a three-hitter against the Los Angeles Dodgers minor leaguers in Vero Beach, FL...two-year letter-winner at Newport HS for Coach Brian Fischer…team went 22-4 during senior year…sported a 9-0 record with a 1.36 ERA for the Knights with 78 strikeouts and 22 walks surrendered in 56 2/3 innings pitched…also earned First Team All-State honors while leading the Knights to the 3A state championship… played summer baseball for Lakeside Recovery and coach Rob Reese…team record of 37-14… won the state championship and placed third at regionals…finished 7-1 with one save and a 2.05 ERA in 65 innings. Scouting Report: Returns as one of the top starters not only for Bellevue, but in the entire region as well...velocity and movement on his fastball and has confidence in his hard curve and change up at all times...increased velocity now puts Buckham on the pro scout map...pitches comfortably in the 87-90 mph range as a lefty who throws strikes, gets outs, wins, and has good durabilty. Personal: Born November 8, 1987 in Bellevue, WA…son of Craig and Gina Buckham…one brother (Zak, 19)…chose Bellevue for being close to home and the good baseball program…heard about the program from high school coach Brian Fischer…also considered attending Skagit Valley College…greatest baseball thrill was winning state for Newport HS…self-described as “quick to learn”…unique characteristic that few people know about is that he is very good at ping-pong…goals are to have a good GPA and get stronger in the weight room.
