3/15/8: When you play for Ed Cheff, 'winning is like breathing' "It's a completely different atmosphere,'' Woods said of playing for Cheff. Adam acknowledged that the mental part of the game is heavily stressed "because if you're mentally weak, the skills don't matter." "You've got to be thick-skinned," he added. " You can't be soft and play for him.'' Cheff believes it's the mentally tough team that prevails in the end."
6/9/6: Kody Valverde (05) Valverde Has Seen the Light “(Coach Cheff) worked with us every day to be mentally tougher,” Valverde said. “I don’t know if he did something special to us or whether we did it ourselves, but it was a fun summer. “It’s miraculous,” Alabama coach Jim Wells said. “He went from a guy who hit .238 or .240, who swung and missed a lot, and he’s just better all the way around. That had to happen for us to be successful.”

Interview with High School Baseball Web | Cheff's Rule: Stay Focused
"If you get the idea that Ed Cheff is a tough, old-school, in-your-face kind of coach, you're right. He is." "He's a great coach," said Chuck "Bobo" Brayton, the former Washington State baseball coach who played many a game against Cheff's L-C teams. "He knows baseball from A to Z, from A-Rod to Zito. He builds baseball players and baseball teams. He's one of the best coaches in America."

LEWIS-CLARK STATE COLLEGE
CAREER COACHING TOTALS th for head coach Ed Cheff, who has developed one of the most impressive collegiate baseball programs in the nation -- at any level. The NAIA World Series championship the Warriors won in 2000 was the school’s 11th since 1984 and second in as many years. The Warriors also won five titles in the '90s. From 1982 to 1992, the Warriors played in 11 consecutive national championship games and won eight, a feat never duplicated by a collegiate team at any level in any major sport. More than 80 of Cheff’s former players at L-C have played professional baseball and several have played in the big leagues, including five current major leaguers. However, when Cheff is honored for baseball accomplishments, a great deal of mention is made of his involvement in other aspects of baseball and the Lewis-Clark Valley communities, a statement that makes a greater impact to the quality of the program than national championships and wins and losses. The Warrior mentor has also been very active in baseball outside of Lewiston. He’s a nationally known clinic speaker and has addressed the American Baseball Coaches Association Convention on four different occasions. He spent the next two summers coaching the Anchorage Bucs in the Alaska Collegiate League.

8/1: Four escape serious injuries "Ed Cheff, field manager of the Goldpanners, shook his head as he watched paramedics treat the brothers near the left field batting cage at Mulcahy. "I thought he was gonna land in the (baseball) field,'' Cheff said. "Four people lived through that? I don't believe it. ''Neither did Goldpanners pitcher Clay Johnson, who saw the scene from the first base dugout. "I looked above the left field fence and it was about 40 feet off the ground,'' Johnson said. "It's one of the most amazing things I've ever seen in my life.'' 7/10: Motivation to win has deep roots "Alaska Goldpanners manager Ed Cheff doesn't plan to change the color of his hair any time soon to motivate his team. "To me,'' said Cheff, "you play because you want to establish a legacy of who you are. You want to be a respected player. You get a mentality that you want to earn the respect of your teammates and the people you play against--that's the motivation. I don't think it comes from the coaches; I think it comes from within you.'' 7/5/2: Panners hope Cheff can cook up some victories 4/5: Confidence the key with UH's Montgomery "I built up a lot of confidence up there," said Montgomery. "Coach Cheff motivates you to succeed. He doesn't deal with losses or failures very well. He made sure you worked hard." 2003 ABL Coach of the Year
2002 PRESSBOX
2002 NAIA, ABL, NBC Coach of the Year - 8/12/2: Fairbanks Return Brightens NBC "Fairbanks took any suspense out of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning. Singles from Jennings, Haag and Gill led to three more runs, and visions of the postgame celebration were dancing in the Panners' heads.
It was a stunning turn of events. "To be honest with you," Anchorage coach Bob Miller replied when asked what happened, "I'm at a loss for words right now." The Panners weren't. Coach Ed Cheff had so many words, he was on his cell phone when the championship trophy was officially presented to the team. "I was trying to call my wife," he said, "but I think she was watching the game on the Internet."
Once again, NBC fans watched Alaska dominate a tournament. Fairbanks now has won the NBC six times, breaking a tie with the Pilots on top of that list. It was the 16th time an Alaska team has won, matching Kansas for the most by a state. "From the day we got here, we thought we might be seeing (the Pilots) tonight," Cheff said. "That's a really good club we had to beat twice here. Doing it the way we did it certainly makes it more special."
