High School: A 2006 graduate of A.C. Davis High School • Named 2006 First Team All-State and 2005 honorable mention All-State • A four-time First Team All-Big Nine Conference selection • Posted a 7-0 record and a 1.43 ERA as a senior • Also played forward on a basketball squad that made an appearance at the 2004 State Tournament • Coached in baseball by Pete Orgill.

Other Amateur Baseball: Played four summers for the Yakima Beetles American Legion team (2003-06) • Led the club to a third place finish at the 2005 Northwest Regionals, where he pitched his squad to a victory over current Stanford teammate Joey August's team (Salem) with a 9-inning, 14-strikeout complete game shutout victory to advance his Yakima squad to the semifinals.
