Garko leads way in
Cleveland romp - "Ryan Garko had acted out his first big
league homer many times as a youngster. Actually hitting it was an even
bigger thrill. Garko had his first homer and drove in four runs to
help Cliff Lee win for the first time in nearly a month, leading the
Cleveland Indians over the Los Angeles Angels 14-2 Thursday night.
Its a special feeling, one I dreamed about since I was a kid, said
Garko, whose 431-foot drive over the center-field wall gave Cleveland a
13-2 lead in the sixth inning. I didnt know how to react. It sank in
when I got high-fives in the dugout. Thats when I realized, I did it.

Garko promoted to Akron

"I didn't really even expect to be (in Kinston) coming out of spring training," Garko, 23, said in April. "I had a good spring, but I was planning to go to Lake County. So when they told me I was going to come here, I was pretty excited that I was going to make the jump."

"First and foremost, I think that anybody that's getting hit by pitches commands a lot of respect," said Lovullo, who has the K-Tribe off to a 31-14, first-place start. "There's no intent there. Pitchers know that they have to get him off the plate to be successful. He's just that good of a hitter."
