  • Despite being a true freshman, began the season in the Huskies’ weekend rotation and retained that role through most of the year ... picked up four wins on the season … first win came March 3 at UC Riverside, when he worked five innings, allowing two runs on three hits and four Ks … struck out five in five innings to beat Southern Utah on March 9 … moved to 3-0 with his best outing of the season, an eight-inning start vs. eventual league champ USC … allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits over eight frames in that one … suffered first loss in a shutout at Stanford … fourth victory of the season came April 8 at Hawaii-Hilo … no decision despite an outstanding outing vs. Gonzaga on May 15, when he allowed only two hits and two unearned runs while striking out five in seven innings.

Elma High School
Earned three letters as a pitcher and shortstop for coaches Jim Bleaker (sophomore and junior) and Scott Rowland … attended the same school as former UW star pitcher Jake Kringen … like Kringen, Johnson compiled a 0.00 earned run average as a senior and led Elma to the AA state championship ... named first-team All-Evergreen League and league pitcher of the year as a sophomore … all-league as a junior and league MVP as a senior … named the MVP of the Washington state all-star game after his senior season … team went 18-5 his senior year … in his final season, threw a perfect game against Capital High (a AAA team), striking out 14 … also struck out 14 in a one-hit win over Othello … earned three letters for the football team.
