The list includes Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver, as well as future Hall of Famers Randy Johnson and Mark McGwire, Dave Kingman and Bill “Spaceman” Lee. "The things I remember best about playing at USC are that we worked hard, learned a lot and had a really great time doing it,” Seaver once said. “I learned more in one year at USC under coach Dedeaux than I would have in two or three seasons in the low minors. I learned concentration and to stay in the game mentally."

It is common knowledge that Dave Kingman, Prospect High School's ace hurler and basketball star of last Year, went "someplace in Alaska to play ball." Many wonder where in Alaska you can play ball, and why anyone would want to go there and play when there are so many good leagues closer to home.

Kingman attended the University of Southern California during the spring and negotiated with the California Angels and the Baltimore Orioles.
THE "SOMETHING special" that lured Kingman from the West Coast was a team called the Pan Alaska Goldpanners. In 1960 the team was formed under the sponsorship of Pan Alaska, Inc., a Fairbanks sporting goods store owned and operated by H, A. (Red) Boucher and his wife. more...

June 4, 1976 - After a game in which Dave Kingman hit three home runs to beat the Dodgers, Tommy Lasorda was asked by Associated Press radio stringer Paul Olden what he thought of Kingman's performance. The rest is history:

Reporter: Can you give us just a few basic comments about your feelings on the game?

Lasorda: Well, naturally I feel bad about losing a ball game like that, there's no way you should lose that ball game. An', it, uh, just doesn't make sense.

R: What's your opinion of Kingman's performance?

TL: What's my opinion of Kingman's performance!? What the BLEEP do you think is my opinion of it? I think it was BLEEPING BLEEP. Put that in, I don't BLEEP. Opinion of his performance!!? BLEEP, he beat us with three BLEEPING home runs! What the BLEEP do you mean, "What is my opinion of his performance?" How could you ask me a question like that, "What is my opinion of his performance?" BLEEP, he hit three home runs! BLEEP. I'm BLEEPING pissed off to lose that BLEEPING game.
