6/15: Panners solve All-Star puzzle - Richard Larson "Chad Redfern came in to pitch the seventh inning.  "I haven't pitched in a game since I was about 10 years old," said Redfern, who normally roams the outfield for the Panners. "I had a couple of big league scouts that were interested in me throwing so I was hoping to use this summer to maybe develop my pitching. I was around the zone, I didn't have any balls hit the backstop, so I was pretty happy."2/3/02: Hits first 2002 homer

  •  1999 -  Won varsity letters in baseball at Chatsworth High School in Chatsworth, CA

  • 1999 - Named to the first team All-Los Angeles City League and all-city squads.

  • 1999 - Voted Chatsworth’s Most Valuable Player.

  • 1999 - Won the Los Angeles city championship in his senior year.

  • 1999 - Played on the Chatsworth American Legion team that won the California and regional titles

COLLEGIATE HILITES

  • 2000 - Selected to the All-MWC Tournament Team after hitting .438 (7-for-16) with a double, home run, four runs scored and eight RBI’s in four games.

  • 2000 - Hit HR that won MWC Tournament and Title for San Diego State

Championship Line Comes Full Circle

Chad Redfern (00) got an early jump into the Goldpanners’ organization.

When he was 12 years old, he donned a Panners cap as the team honored his father, Pete Redfern (74-75), for his star pitching performances in the 1974 and 1975 seasons. Then, as a college freshman last year, he placed himself under the coaching of one Jim Dietz, veteran Panners coach during Pete Redfern’s tenure with the Panners and current head coach at San Diego State University.

But he’s not here just because his dad played here, or because he has an "in" through Dietz. Chad has already proven that he can hit—he batted .322 in his debut season at the San Diego State—and field—as evidenced by more than one diving catch already this summer for the Goldpanners.  more...
