Timmons finds his place in baseball history at Cooperstown

"EVERY BALLPLAYER dreams of making it to Cooperstown, where baseball preserves its past.  For Fairbanksan Sean Timmons, who started pitching in North Star Little League more than 20 years ago on fields carefully tended by the late Ken Rankin, the dream has come true."

2006 PRESSBOX

  • 8/1/6: Named 2006 Alaska Goldpanners Most Valuable Pitcher

  • 7/12/6: Sean Timmons sets strikeout record in Panners win "Timmons caught Fire left fielder Steve Shaver looking at a pitch on the outside part of the plate at Growden Memorial Park to tally his 274th career strikeout, passing Brent Strom on the all-time list. “Ten years to do it,” said Timmons who first toed the rubber for the Panners in 1994 and is pitching in his 10th season. “Hey, it’s nice. It wasn’t pretty, but hey I got it done. I don’t gotta worry about it anymore.”

  • 6/26/6: Timmons, Mier combine to pace Goldpanners win - "Sean Timmons, the winningest pitcher in Goldpanners history, pitched seven solid innings to add another victory to his laurels and catcher Jessie Mier belted a three-run homer that snapped a 3-3 tie as the Goldpanners downed the Anchorage Bucs 10-3 before an appreciative gathering at Growden Memorial Park. Cheff (Goldpanner manager Ed Cheff) made it a point to say that we needed to do things differently,” Mier said of the Goldpanners’ offensive turnaround. “He just re-emphasized in a strong way the things that needed to be done in order for us to have success,” said Mier, who plays under Cheff’s direction at NAIA champion Lewis-Clark State in Idaho. “The main thing was that we needed to be more selective instead of chasing pitches.”

  • 6/16/6: Byrns and Dunn propel Panners - "The 29-year-old right-hander from Fairbanks began his 10th season with the Goldpanners by allowing a run, scattering six hits, striking out six and giving up a walk over six innings. “He was just amazing,'’ said Cheff. “He just had special command of his slider; he’s always had that since he’s been pitching.'’

  • JULY 17, 2004 - "It wasn't a pretty thing," said Timmons of the outing in which he broke the record he'd shared since July 6- following a 12-3 win against the Anchorage Bucs -with George "Muggs" Mies the '60's-era Panners pitcher-first baseman, who played seven consecutive seasons for the club. "But I got it done," Timmons added. "And It's a good feeling."

  • JUNE 26, 2004 vs AIA "I keep my focus on the pitching," said Timmons, when asked if he was affected by the big change in atmosphere at Growden Park between the two starts. "I just go out there and throw strikes. I still have a job to do."

  • JUNE 21, 2004 - "Sean Timmons had only one regret after Monday night's Midnight Sun Game- and it wasn't a pitch that got away or one he wished he hadn't thrown. "I wish I had more time to speak to George," said Timmons, the Midnight Sun game starter and winning pitcher in the Panners 9-1 win over the Peninsula Oilers..

  • 6/13/4: Panners top Michigan Monarchs

  • 8/6: Fairbanks claims key win "There was no particular pitch working," Timmons said. "My location was pretty good tonight. Getting the lead early was nice. These guys have been doing that for me all year. There wasn't really a lot of pressure. We've got five returning guys from last year. We're just going to play our game."

  • 8/6: Title defense begins "Alaska Baseball League Player of the Year Sean Timmons was backed by an explosive offense as the Alaska Goldpanners opened defense of their National Baseball"

  • 8/6: Panners roll to a shutout "WICHITA, Kan. -- With Sean Timmons on the mound and many other returning standouts in the lineup, it looked a little routine.."

  • 8/2: Working man wins ABL Player of Year "This is the seventh summer Timmons has played baseball for his hometown Fairbanks Goldpanners at night and earned a steady paycheck working 8-5 at a health clinic."

  • 8/1: Named ABL Player of the Year "Timmons first made a brief appearance with the Panners in the 1994 season. After graduating from Armstrong College in Georgia, he returned in 1998 and has steadily earned more playing time each season. Last year, he was the most valuable starting pitcher for the Panners and this year, he topped that by being named the league's best player."

  • 7/18: Timmons shuts down Bucs' bats - "I know they were a little sluggish getting off the bus but heck they didn't get home until 4 o'clock this morning," Timmons said of his teammates. "All I ask every time I go out there is just to get me one or two."

  • 6/27: Timmons delivers shutout "Looking for a key victory before embarking on a road trip that will include six games in five days, the Alaska Goldpanners gave the ball to veteran Sean"
