"Timmons caught Fire left fielder Steve Shaver looking at a pitch on the
outside part of the plate at Growden Memorial Park to tally his 274th
career strikeout, passing Brent Strom on the all-time list. “Ten years
to do it,” said Timmons who first toed the rubber for the Panners in
1994 and is pitching in his 10th season. “Hey, it’s nice. It wasn’t
pretty, but hey I got it done. I don’t gotta worry about it anymore.”

Timmons, Mier combine to pace
Goldpanners win - "Sean Timmons, the winningest pitcher in
Goldpanners history, pitched seven solid innings to add another
victory to his laurels and catcher Jessie Mier belted a three-run
homer that snapped a 3-3 tie as the Goldpanners downed the Anchorage
Bucs 10-3 before an appreciative gathering at Growden Memorial Park.
Cheff (Goldpanner manager Ed Cheff) made it a point to say that we
needed to do things differently,” Mier said of the Goldpanners’
offensive turnaround. “He just re-emphasized in a strong way the
things that needed to be done in order for us to have success,” said
Mier, who plays under Cheff’s direction at NAIA champion Lewis-Clark
State in Idaho. “The main thing was that we needed to be more
selective instead of chasing pitches.”

Byrns and Dunn propel Panners - "The 29-year-old right-hander from Fairbanks began his
10th season with the Goldpanners by allowing a run, scattering six hits,
striking out six and giving up a walk over six innings. “He was just
amazing,'’ said Cheff. “He just had special command of his slider; he’s
always had that since he’s been pitching.'’

"The Goldpanners beat Omaha 3-1 in the 100th Anniversary game. Fairbanks native Sean Timmons was the winning pitcher. He is now the winningest pitcher (3-0) in the history of the Midnight Sun game. Immediately after the game, his No. 33 jersey was shipped to the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y. "

JULY 17, 2004 - "It wasn't a pretty thing," said Timmons of the outing in which he broke the record he'd shared since July 6- following a 12-3 win against the Anchorage Bucs -with George "Muggs" Mies the '60's-era Panners pitcher-first baseman, who played seven consecutive seasons for the club. "But I got it done," Timmons added. "And It's a good feeling."

"I keep my focus on the pitching," said Timmons, when asked if he was affected by the big change in atmosphere at Growden Park between the two starts. "I just go out there and throw strikes. I still have a job to do."

"Phil Blackwell, a pitcher on the Panners 1962-65 teams, threw out the first pitch, exactly 40 years after being the starting pitcher in the 1962 Midnight Sun Game... these guys have beautiful uniforms, while we had nice baggy ones. But the game was the same. We had 3 or 4,000 fans back then, too, and they were every bit as raucous as they are right now," Blackwell said as a roar came from the group of 80 thundering students from Marshall, Mich., packed into the far left-field stands.
6/22: A Boyhood Dream Comes True for
Sean Timmons "the Alaska Goldpanners defeated the Ukiah Victory Dons 2-1 on a game-winning RBI single from Chad Corona in the bottom of the ninth inning. "I'm going to Alaskaland, baby!" joked Corona with his teammates during a jubilant celebration in front of the Panners' bench after Ryan Haag crossed the dish for the winning run.|

Waves beat Panners "This is a good fielding team and a good hitting team, and once we get everybody here it will be a strong pitching team, too," Timmons said. "I think it is good to get this out of the way now and hopefully this will help us get better for the league season. We still want to win, but you would rather lose now than in league." With new players arriving daily and only a couple of returning players from last season, Timmons said he was comfortable on the field, but still getting to know everybody in the dugout. "It's not really difficult (playing). My job is just to go out there and throw strikes," Timmons said. "Learning the guys' names is the hardest part. My first baseman and shortstop I get confused."
