Al Coutts, flashy All American Second Baseman, steals home during a '63 North of the Range League game with the Eilson Outlaws. - For the fourth consecutive year the Fairbanks squad won the league title and went on to win their third consecutive Alaska State Championship.
Sam Suplizio and Goldpanner Manager (Red) boucher discuss a key play during the 1963 NBC Tournament. "Sourdough" Sam was voted the tournament's Most Valuable Player, named to the All American Team, and paced the tournament by hitting a .500 average.
Governor William E. Egan joins in a hearty laugh with Al Campanis, Director of Scouting for the Los Angeles Dodgers, while attending the Goldpanner Banquet. The banquet was held to salute the fans and boosters of the Nation's Non-Pro Team of the Year. Pictured with Governor Egan and Campanis is Mike Stepovich, Sam Suplizio and (Red) Boucher.
Wichita's Mayor Vincent Bogart views the Daily News-Miner Earthquake Edition with Goldpanner Manager (Red) Boucher and Wichita Jaycee President John Cummings. Following the Good Friday Earthquake, cities from all over the United States who have come to know Alaska via the Goldpanners rallied to the aid of the 49th State. Joining Grand Junction, Colorado, Wichita, Kansas proclaimed a "Wichita-Aid to Alaska Week." Pictured is following the signing of the proclamation.
