The Fairbanks, Alaska , Goldpanners became only the sixth team in the history of the NBC national tournament to win back-to-back crowns with a 10-6 victory over Liberal, Kan., in the title game. Liberal had 12 hits to Fairbanks' 11, but the BeeJays failed to win their second national crown. Fairbanks' Gene Delyon went 3-for-4 in the championship contest and drove home two runs with a homer. Teammate Lee Iorg was chosen as the tourney's Most Valuable Player. He had 11 hits in 22 trips to the plate at an even .500.
