August 3:

The Goldpanners surged through the preliminary round of the Anchorage Invitational Tournament to earn the number 2 seeding in the medal round, winding up in third place after a 10-4 defeat at the hands of the Kenai Oilers in the semifinals.  The Panners had posted wins over the Oilers, Anchorage Glacier Pilots and Mat-Su Miners in the round-robin and suffered a last-inning 4-3 loss to eventual champion Anchorage Bucs.

The Canada road trip opened Sunday night and the club absorbed a 5-4 loss in 13 innings to the Kelowna, B.C., Grizzlies.   Two more non-tourney games are on tap with Kelowna and then the Kelowna International Tournament opens on Thursday with the Panners meeting the Seattle Studs in their first game of the round-robin section.  The other preliminary round games are on Friday with the Edmonton, Alberta Tigers and the Ontario, OR, Larks.  The championship game will be played Sunday, August 9 and the team members head for their respective homes the next day.
