Army Day

ARMY CELEBRATION DAY @ GROWDEN PARK

PROMOTION DATE: JUNE 14, 2000

On April 19th of this year, Governor Tony Knowles signed a proclamation declaring June 12-18, 2000 as United States Army week. In the proclamation, he encouraged all Alaskans to recognize and honor the United States Army, and the 225 years of its operation.

The Alaska Goldpanners of Fairbanks Baseball Club will be joining in the celebration of the 225th year of America’s freedom by opening their 41st season with a birthday party for the Army. "Army Day" will be held on June 14th, and will include ceremonies celebrating Flag Day as well.

The Army Color Guard from Fort Wainwright will be presenting the flags during our pregame ceremonies, and Colonel Benny Steagall will throw out the first pitch. He is the Deputy Commanding Officer of U.S. Army Alaska and is stationed here in Fairbanks at Fort Wainwright. He will be leaving Alaska in late June for a new assignment, so this evening will honor Colonel Steagall for his Alaska service, as well.

For the kids, there will be military vehicles on display from both Fort Wainwright and the Army National Guard.

As an incentive to encourage attendance, we will be offering tickets at $2 for all military personnel (and dependants) carrying military identification. All military personnel will be recognized and honored during the evening.

For more information, please feel free to call me (Todd Dennis) at 451-0095, or you can write me at todd@goldpanners.com.
