Panners beaten by Bucs

The Alaska Goldpanners of Fairbanks will be looking to get untracked
when they return home tonight to host the Mat-Su Miners in Alaska
Baseball League action.
After winning their first two games of the ABL season, the Panners went
1-4 on their first road trip of the year, including a 3-1 loss at the
hands of the Anchorage Bucs on Saturday night at Mulcahy Stadium in
Anchorage.
A trio of Anchorage pitchers limited the Panners to just four hits,
while walking two and striking out 10 on Saturday night.
Third baseman Beau Mills was the only Goldpanner with two hits and one
of those was a solo home run to lead off the fifth inning. Designated
hitter Jordan Mayer followed with a double, but the Panners couldn't
score another run even though Mayer moved to third on a passed ball.

The Bucs scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings and
that was more than enough offense to pull out the win, which was a
measure of revenge after Anchorage suffered a 10-3 loss to the Panners
in Fairbanks on June 25.
Panner starter Brad Schwarzenbach pitched seven solid innings, but took
the loss after giving up seven hits and two earned runs, while walking
one and striking out nine.
The loss dropped the Panners to 3-4 in the ABL, but Alaska is only 1 1/2
games behind the Anchorage Glacier Pilots who fell to 6-4 after Saturday
night's 4-1 loss to the Peninsula Oilers of Kenai.
The Bucs and Mat-Su Miners are tied for second with 6-5 records, while
the Oilers are 5-5 and have won four straight games. Athletes in Action
rounds out the standings with a 4-7 league record.
The Panners host the Miners at 7 tonight at Growden Memorial Park. The
four-game series continues at 7 p.m. Monday and concludes with a 2 p.m.
doubleheader on the Fourth of July.
