Boone Sent to Padres in Six Player Deal December 22, 1999 After scorching Yankees pitching in the '99 World Series, second baseman Bret Boone was dealt by the Atlanta Braves to the San Diego Padres in a six player deal. Boone, a native of San Diego, is set to make $3.75 million next year with a club option for 2001. He was an All-Star in 1998, is a career .255 hitter with 106 homers, 462 RBI and 39 steals in 945 major league contests. The grandson of major league infielder Ray Boone, the son of Goldpanner and major league catcher Bob Boone and the older brother of Reds third baseman Aaron Boone, Bret was dealt to Atlanta in November 1998. "Bret Boone has established himself as a rare 20-home run middle infielder the last couple of years, while remaining one of the best defensive second basemen in the game," Padres general manager Kevin Towers said. Boone established career highs with 608 at-bats, 102 runs scored and 14 stolen bases, while his 20 home runs were four shy of his 1998 personal best. 1988 Goldpanner Batting Statistics
