The Alaska Goldpanners turned the tables on the Alaska Baseball League-leading Peninsula Oilers Monday night in Kenai.

After suffering a 2-0 loss to the Oilers on Sunday at Coral Seymour Memorial Stadium, the Panners bounced back to claim a 1-0 victory Tuesday night behind the bat of Brooks Conrad and the pitching of Barry Matthews.

Conrad provided all the offense the Goldpanners would need as he hammered a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to end the team's 22-inning scoreless streak.

The Panners, who were pounding the ball when they were at home in the friendly confines of Growden Memorial Park, have only scored one run in their last 28 innings of play.

Matthews tossed a seven-hit shutout in boosting his record to 2-1 on the season. He didn't walk a batter and recorded seven strikeouts.

The Panners defense didn't commit an error and turned one double play.

Peninsula starter Philip Tribe, who beat the Panners earlier in the season in Fairbanks, allowed just four hits in seven innings of work but one of those hits was a booming home run to Conrad.

The win snapped a three-game Goldpanner losing streak and boosted the club to 4-6 in league and 10-8 overall.

Meanwhile, the loss snapped a seven-game winning streak for Peninsula and dropped the Oilers to 7-3 in league games and 16-5 overall.

The two teams complete their four-game series and their season series with a doubleheader this afternoon. Then, the Panners head back to Anchorage for a two-game series against the Anchorage Glacier Pilots before returning home to host the Hawaii Island Movers at 7 p.m. Friday at Growden Park.
