| PRESS RELEASE - SEPTEMBER 4, 2000 Dan Cowgill Steps Down as Goldpanners Skipper Led Goldpanners Back to Wichita After three successful campaigns, field manager Dan Cowgill ('98,'99,'00) decided that he will not return for the 2001 Goldpanners season. His resignation was accepted by the club's board of directors in Fairbanks. Cowgill, who cited the press of work, serves as Athletic Director of Los Angeles City College, and doubles as head baseball coach at LaCresenta, CA, high school during the school year. Prior to taking over the field managerial duties for the Panners in 1998, Cowgill served the club as a catcher on the 1976 championship squad and an assistant to Ben Hines in 1978. His three season with the Goldpanners yielded an overall 83-66 record in 149 games, for a .557 winning percentage. The 2000 season saw the best results of the three, with a .583 winning percentage, and the second place league finish. In 2000, Dan Cowgill became the first Goldpanners field manager in 16 years to lead the club to the NBC Tournament in Wichita, Kansas. The Goldpanners obtained the second Alaska League NBC qualification by beating the Mat-Su Miners in a one game playoff. The Alaska Goldpanners of Fairbanks have not yet announced who will be his replacement. SEPTEMBER 4, 2000 Alaska Goldpanners of Fairbanks
