College: Was used primarily as a reliever at San Diego State University as a sophomore this spring.
Appeared in 25 games, starting three, with a 2-1 record and a 4.34 ERA. Struck out 46 while walking 33 in 47.2 innings as he helped the Aztecs to a 34-28 record and the inaugural Mountain West Conference championship. Selected to the All-MWC Tournament Team. Pitched in the three games during the tournament, recording one save and a 2.08 ERA. Struck out 13 while walking three and yielding just two hits in 4.1 innings. In two seasons at SDSU he has appeared in 32 games, starting three, with a 2-1 record and a 5.03 ERA. Has struck out 52 while walking 39 in 53.2 innings.
High School: Won three varsity letters in baseball at Granite Hills High School in El Cajon. Was named the 1998 San Diego CIF Player of the Year after hitting .416 with five home runs and 38 runs batted in. Also compiled an 8-1 record as a pitcher with a 1.45 earned run average. Struck out 89 batters in 74 innings pitched. A first-team All-CIF and All-Grossmont South League selection. Also voted the Grossmont
South Player of the Year. Named to the All-San Diego County first team. Won the 1998 San Diego CIF Division I championship. Also won two letters as a member of the Granite Hills basketball team.
